Ștefan Doru Moscu

Overexposed, tr.v: something that has been played, listened to, or talked about so much to the point where the object becomes unbearable and the general public begins to build a collective hatred for the poor thing. This usually happens to really good YouTube videos, Vines, or songs that go viral; however this can happen to many other things ranging from memes to people. (urban dictionary) The social attitude of the individ in relation to social media, parallel realities or the power of the masses are the main subjects approached in Overexposure, the solo painting exhibition of the Romanian artist Stefan Doru Moscu from 6th - 31st of July 2017, at Galerie am Maxmonument. Stefan's artistic style is marked by surface manipulation, fragmentation and shapes which distort the conventional images (often rendering the image in motion), describing his own visions over the actual socio-political concerns which struggle the modern individ. He deliberately juxtaposes elements which appear to contradict each other, in order to challenge traditional ideas of harmony and continuity. Briefly, deconstructionism challenges in almost all levels of his existence: childhood memories, images and movies seen, emotions or political events he has been crossing. During his very active presence on the art scene (with both painting and sculpture), Stefan was shown in several solo and group exhibitions: Performance at Art Museum (2011, Brasov) Artist Wanted/ Art Takes Times Square (2012, New York), Oravska Gallery (2014, Slovakia), GLO ART (2015, Belgium), Add To Address Book, MOYA (2015, Austria), Endless Summer (2016, Berlin), Tiny Griffon Gallery (2017, Nuremberg). As well, his works are part of private collections in the US, Australia, Monaco, London, UK, Germany, France, Romania, Slovakia, Belgium, Ireland. Overexposure questions around power and play between audience and performer within an interactive installation which allows the visitor to approach the same picture from multiple perspectives, giving him the choice of what he wants to see (like a publisher of a publicity or social network saver). Fragments from Fritz Lang's Metropolis together with collages from the artist's work are the subject of a multimedia installation, when images highlight the relationship between natural and artificial, placing the viewer in a space in which to reflect on the mentality of the new wave of social communication.

The exhibition is hosted by Galerie am Maxmonument, gallery of contemporary art.
